Hi, My pet (female golden retriever, 3yrs) frequently keeps getting skin infection. Almost every other month it keep coming back. Vet has been given antibiotics multiple times in last 2yrs but it only gives temporary relief. It is either bacterial or sometimes even fungal. Any suggestions? I have tried given omega syrups, medicated food specifically for skin, spot-ons for skin strengthing but nothing seem to be giving a solution. She is mostly indoors and only during walk she goes out in open ground. I don't think it's due to my surroundings as we have shifted to multiple locations and the infection did not stop.

Hi Abhijit, recurrent skin infection may be due to food allergy, atopic dermatitis, hyperadrenocortisim etc. Which is the primary source of protein in her diet? Is it chicken/fish/lamb?

Hi Supriya, Primarily it's chicken. Fish and lamb rarely we give and that too through ready made wet food packs.

Same with my pet, he is a male Golden Retriever, aged 1 year and 5 months, 33 kg. For the past couple of months, he has been receiving almost monthly medication by vet, starting with Hestacef, itracanozole 100 mg due to persistent shaking, itching/scratching constantly licking his paws, red spots on his body Vet examined it's general dermatitis & wet eczema on 12th Sept (1/3)

(2/2) After a brief halt, the issue resurfaced by 2nd wk Nov Currently, he is on Apoquel 16 mg tablets, omega 3 & 6 syrups (7 ml twice a day), flutibact ointment wherever a red spot & a weekly spa using Savlon and shampoo as advised by the vet. Additionally, we feed him Dibaq kibbles (chicken and duck) grain-free three times a day, half an apple , 1 carrot daily, 1 spoon honey daily, 1 condrovet medium tab As per vet, it's focal fungal dermatitis at this point. Is there anything that needs attention?

(3/3) Just so you know, we began giving our dunzo "apples, carrots, and honey" a few weeks ago. And sometimes, after walks and feeding medicine, we use an E collar on him for 1-2 hours so that he does not lick. This is also we started today

Hi kumar, in dunzo's case you are using apoquel and skin supplement. Apoquel is given just to decrease itching and to provide comfort for a dog.

What do you suggest next? Is there any way to find out the allergy cause?

Dr. Supriya
Yes abhijit choose a single protein containing food,Either chicken or fish. Continue the same diet for a month and observe pet. It takes atleast 20days to notice major changes. But before that it is important to rule out infectious cause.

Hello, doctor. Despite finishing the apoquel, omega+ syrup, the itching has resumed, primarily on his face, and he scratches around 4-5 times daily. We've tried various remedies, including tablets, omega syrup, and multivit. While these measures are effective during medication, itching returns once his dose is over Daily diet consists of dibaq (grain free, chicken and duck flavor) three times a day, supplemented with apples, carrots & honey. What to do next? Pls suggest

My 1.7 year old golden retriever hasn't been eating since few days, lethargic and puking out everything that he's eating (yellow puke). We went to the vet and he said he has throat infection and stomach upset and gave him some medicine and antibiotics. Should we visit another vet for second opinion or is it general symptoms of infection? I'm really worried because he never got sick till now and was always active.
