Hi, since it’s too hot these days, my 4 year old golden retriever was finding it very difficult to manage. So we decided to groom him but after observing some red rashes on his body we ended up shaving him completely. This is the 2nd time he’s shaved like this. 1st time it was on the vets recommendation done 2 years ago. I was looking at articles if is it fine to shave the retrievers and everything said “Never shave retrievers” so I’m concerned to know if it’s good or bad so that we can be careful next time.

Apparently these patches are dried now and they were seen when we got him shaved for the 1st time(there were ticks and wounds). So I wanted to check how his skin is doing now and I can’t see any ticks right now and these patches seems to be the old ones. Just a few new ones here and there.

Hi, you can start giving him a medicated wash once in a week. I generally prefer a shampoo called conaseb. Also start some omega fa supplement and apply a spot on if there are any external parasites. I would generally recommend not to get a zero trim like this done in the future: - It exposes your pet's sensitive skin to harmful sunrays and allergens around him. The fur is like a layer of protection, removing it will sometimes cause skin infections to increase.
