My male pet is more than one year old. We are both working parents. As soon as we leave the house, he barks a lot. Neighbours have started complaining a lot. How do we address the issue? We have tried many things but to no use.

Hi Abhiyanka. That’s mainly due to separation anxiety and additional reasons could be fear or boredom when left alone. Some studies highlight the role genetic makeup as well. Solutions: (Pet needs more time to get adjusted). 1. Give his favourite treat while leaving 2. Leave his favourite toy which he can play with when alone. 3. Take him for a walk in the morning before leaving the house just to make him feel tired. A tired pet is usually quieter.

4. Provide puzzle feeders/toys. This keeps him busy. 5. Set a routine. 6. Crate training is also advisable.
