What causes lip fold dermatitis

Some breeds are more prone for Lip fold pyoderma ..Breeds which have lot of skin folds, saggy skin..(pugs, American Bulldogs etc)..All dogs have bacteria that live naturally on their skin..They only become problematic when they multiply uncontrollably or if they can pass through the skin”s defence barrier.. Skin folds not only create the perfect environment for bacteria and fungal growth..they also create friction between skin surfaces and this can cause inflam mation ( dermatitis).

and it could cause microbial overgrowth of closely opposed skin surface.. Other causes could be due to excessive salivation which sits in the lip folds around the lips, encouraging bacteria to grow..Or an underlying skin issue that cause inflammation of skin such as mites or allergic skin disease..

Clip the hair around the lips, kerp your dogs lip folds clean and dry...Gently wipe the lip folds and be sure to brush your pets teeth.. Provide clean food and water bowls daily.. You can apply soothing balms such as Wrinkle balm or Skin Soother which has natural ingredients ( avacado oil, Vit E, Coconut oil..)and anti inflammatory properties..
