How do I get my 13 year old Indie male cat, 2.5 year old Norwegian forest - British shorthair mix female cat (neutered) and 3 year old Shih Tzu to be friends? My big guy has been with me from the time he was a month old while the weige came into our lives in Jan. We brought my hubby’s doggo home from my in-laws this year and it’s been a fab time so far but all of them are in separate rooms to prevent fights from occurring…

Initially a new member should be kept in a separate room for a few weeks. As dogs and cats produce their own scent which they use for territory marking along with urination, it's hard for the older ones to accept the new ones. During this separation period, you can switch the bedding on alternate days so that they get used to each other’s scent. Get them toys separately and swap between them. Give them playtime for few hours together under your supervision. Give them feeding and water bowls separately.

During the playtime use treats to praise them and introduce them. Using commands is a good idea too.

Thanks a ton, doctor. We have kept them in separate rooms itself. My Shih Tzu is very excited to meet the cats. The smaller cat however hisses after awhile. Will take into consideration all your inputs and keep you posted!

My Leo, i was very afraid of dogs back then. One day my brother brought Leo home and gave it to me. It was so tiny that i should hold it like a fragile thing. That was the moment changed my whole life. Today Leo was the reason I am feeding many street dogs. He was my inspiration to life. I love you Leo beta❤️

Hi! My 3 months 20 days female labrador often scratches her ears and bites her limbs. Is it a normal behaviour or needs medical attention?

Noticing my dog’s eyes watering recently since a few days. I observed that this only happens when he’s outside in the balcony just looking down at people and dogs, he loves it. Could it be because of the cold or wind?
