My 1yr 5months female Labrador was on heat last month and now she is having phantom pregnancy. What to do? How to make her recover from producing watery substance from her breast.

Phantom pregnancy happens in intact females due to the normal hormonal changes after the heat period. The condition usually subsides itself after few weeks. You can aid her symptoms like milk production and enlarged nipples you can use a t-shirt or a elizabethan collar on her to prevent her from licking her nipple that can further stimulate milk production.

To prevent such condition in future you can consider spaying her and to rule out any other cause for the behaviour you can schedule a vet visit.

Pseudopregnancy/ false pregnancy is self resolving, so it's not important to start treatment immediately. We generally see nesting behaviour, your pet feels like she is pregnant so we see them becoming over protective about their surroundings because of which they sometimes end up attacking people, some females also experience drop in appetite.

However in some cases individuals can start developing secondary mastitis which is infection in the mammary glands due to over accumulation of milk. In cases of mastitis or very severe behavioral changes treatment can be initiated with cabergolin. I would suggest getting a detailed physical health check before starting this treatment.

Eat or Pass? 2. Milk We commonly tend to think that milk is a balanced food choice to fulfill all nutritional needs, and we tend to feed it to street dogs and our pets, BUT here's a plot twist. Most Dogs are lactose intolerant and cannot digest milk. It can cause negative reactions like vomiting, diarrhea, and loose stools. They don't even need milk nutritionally after the weaning period. Other dairy products like curd and cheese are easily digestible but are better to be fed in moderation.
