I have been reading that when humidity plus temp (in Fahrenheit) is above 150, then we should not exercise our dogs due to heat stress. Is there any truth to this. Past 1 week hyderabad is always above 150 as per above.

Today was 30c and humidity was 66, so as per calculation it was above 150, I made me golden fetch for 10min then took her for a 10min walk. She was panting but not in any distress. So was wondering if there is any truth to the above.

Hi Sridhar. Yes, basically a pet should only be taken out for a walk in the early mornings or evenings during hot humid- summers. Avoid heavy exercises. A 10 minutes walk is more than sufficient. Post walk panting in summers is very common. Move your pet to an air conditioned room soon after a walk and feed water once he/she calms down.

Thanks doc, I will ensure exercise only in the early mornings from now on.
