My 3yr old gsd, shadow is diagnosed with tick fever. I got the PCR done and he tested positive for b. Gibsoni and b. Sp strains. His blood tests are normal except for super low platelet (25k against 145k expected)
As per my research on google, the best course is atovaquone and Azithromycin along for gibsoni and imidocarb and berinil for .sp.
The vet is currently giving him clivet, doxy and metronidazole as tablets along with 2 liver syrups and 1 platelet syrup, imidocarb and berinil as injections.
My research again says the tablets that are currently prescribed are weak and could lead to relapse. I asked the vet but he said this is good enough. Can somebody please help me with second opinion? I strongly believe Azithromycin and atovaquone should be given instead of clivet, doxy and metronidazole. Not to forget prednisolone was prescribed for 5 days.
Also my dog is currently active. But I don't think his platelet is fully back, I'm getting it tested today or tomorrow.
Thanks.
